Daymn’s Journey in the Pre-Apprenticeship Program at Destinations Career Academy of Oregon

The world of skilled trades is brimming with opportunities, and Destinations Career Academy of Oregon is preparing students for success through its innovative Pre-Apprenticeship Program. Among the standout participants is Daymn, a 2024-25 High School junior, whose story highlights the value of hands-on learning and career-focused education.
From Brick-and-Mortar to Virtual Excellence
Daymn joined Destinations Career Academy of Oregon halfway through his freshman year after struggling with the structure of his traditional school’s class setting. The shorter, 50-minute virtual lessons give him the flexibility and focus he needs to thrive.
“I didn’t enjoy the long days at my old school. With Destinations Career Academy of Oregon, I’ve been able to manage my time better and stay engaged,” he shared.
Finding a Passion in the Pre-Apprenticeship Program
When it came time to choose classes, Daymn was immediately drawn to the newly launched Pre-Apprenticeship Program, which aims to give students foundational skills for careers in construction and the trades.
The program offers an engaging mix of online modules and in-person, hands-on experiences. In just two months, Daymn completed all the modules, including his favorite—welding.
“Welding was awesome. I really enjoyed it,” he said.

He also valued real-world experiences, such as building a wall with insulation in just two days and connecting with peers during Central Oregon Community College visits.
“Meeting people in person was great, and I still keep in touch with some of them,” Daymn noted.
Learning from Dedicated Mentors
One of Daymn’s favorite parts of the program is the support he received from Mr. Tatum, his instructor.
“Mr. Tatum makes sure you know what you’re doing. He shows you, explains everything, and is always nice about it,” Daymn said. This mentorship has been a cornerstone of his positive experience in the program.
Looking Ahead: A Future in Construction
Daymn’s dream is to become an ironworker, building iconic structures like the Empire State Building. While he’s still deciding on his next steps after completing the Pre-Apprenticeship Program, he’s certain about one thing: construction is where he wants to be.
This program has laid a strong foundation for Daymn’s career ambitions, and he’s excited about the doors it may open for him in the future.
Beyond the Classroom
When he’s not honing his skills in the Pre-Apprenticeship Program, Daymn enjoys playing video games, with Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege being a favorite. While he is not part of an eSports team, Daymn’s gaming hobby adds a balance to his busy life as a student and budding tradesman.
Building Dreams, One Module at a Time
Daymn’s story exemplifies the power of career-focused education to unlock potential and prepare students for real-world success. Programs like the Pre-Apprenticeship Program at Destinations Career Academy of Oregon not only teach technical skills but also inspire students to dream big and pursue their passions.
